Shoe Money Tonight!
There is good news on the horizon my friends. Good news indeed. I'm not talkin' 'bout my car. It cost me $1,200 I could scarce afford, and now doesn't start all the time. I'm not talkin' 'bout my health. I still haven't scheduled a date for my surgery. I'm not talkin' 'bout my game. It looks like I'm bleeding players and desperately need an infusion. I'm not even talkin' 'bout my country. The Democrats can't field a team, and the Republicans seem happy to provide more of the same ol' thing they've been pitching since St. Reagan came on the mound.
No my friends I'm talkin' 'bout Sports Night. September 30th a
tenth anniversary edition DVD hits the shelves. I love this show. I watched it with my parents every week for the two seasons it was on ABC. Then when it moved to Comedy Central, and I moved to Richmond, it was like a call from home every time it came on. I loved it.
Check out that cast. From the left, that's Peter Krause pre Six Feet Under and Dirty Sexy Money. Felicity Huffman pre Transamerica and Desperate Housewives. Josh Charles before In Treatment. Robert Guillaume, who needs no introduction. Sabrina Lloyd, a local Fairfax Virginia born woman who has worked on Sliders, Ed, and Numb3rs. And finally, that's Josh Malina, before he spent 4 seasons on The West Wing, and became a producer of Celebrity Poker Showdown.
It's an Aaron Sorkin show. That's really all you need to know.
Favorite moment in the show? Well, of course I love the shoe money tonight chant, Dan's on air apology to his brother Sam, Issac's editorial comments on the sixth southern gentlemen from Tennessee, the horribly painful reveal in the episode "Sally". But all of these fall aside as I remember Dana (Huffman) complaining about having to go to a Broadway show, then finding out that Lion King is sold out, then suddenly getting tickets. It is a episode long build to the moment when she comes back, breathlessly extolling the virtues of Broadway, and The Lion King in specific, which she proceeds to describe in wonder as a voice calling all the animals to appear and honor the new born baby lion, and then the animals appear! It's really quite a nice moment. Particularly, because her boss, who got her the tickets, is Issac (Guillaume) who played Rafiki in the movie The Lion King. You know, the one who held up the baby lion and asked all the animals to honor it? I died laughing. Such a great meta-moment.

I still love West Wing more, though I'll give any Sorkin show a shot (I even stuck around for the entire season of Studio 60).
Sports Night was never a must watch, though I liked it when I saw it. Maybe I'll pick up the DVD.
I love West Wing more as well. I watched all of Studio 60 too. This is great stuff. You'll enjoy hearing his voice in these actors hands.
