"New York, New York"

Start spreading the news...

That's right folks, opportunity presented itself, and I jumped. Poor word chooser Disco Mom Takes on the World has offered to switch with people and I called dibs-double no take back style. That's right, no more smallest room in the townhouse for Davey. I'm movin' on up! Now if you'll excuse me, there are some particulars to work out.

Now, for Ed and the girls sake, I suggest you all switch with all of my housemates. You and I could switch straight up, but the girls would miss Mom, and I'm fairly certain Ed and I would have "adjustment issues". So let's assume you are all going to switch. The town house has a fenced in backyard with a half blind bunny that has grass and flower eating privileges. The kitchen is small but we all make it work, so I'm sure you can. We are walking distance (In fact only 1,500 feet) to a grocery store, a hardware store, a Baskin Robbins, a Starbucks, a Subway, and a nice Italian Restaurant. The attic is carpeted, but not hooked up to the central air, so it is hot in the summer, and cold in the winter, but very cool in concept.

Now just to make this official, I reaffirm my call of double no take backs. My house mates are out of town until Sunday, but I think we could be out by end of the month. I haven't told them anything about this, I'm hoping to surprise them when they get back from vacation.

Oh yeah. Social calender. I have a girlfriend, someone will have to take up where I left off there. She's a wonderful beautiful, funny girl, and I hate to let her go, but she already said no to New York City, so if you could hook her up with someone nice I'd appreciate it. I stay up late and philosophise over coffee @ twice a week with Mark, so I hope you don't mind no sleep. He leans rather far to the left politically, and is in fact, kind of an anarchist, but I'm sure you'll get along great. We tip very well, but always seem to get "the new guy" so be prepared. He pays a lot of the time, so that's a plus, but you're going to have to take up smoking. Sorry about that. Oh yeah, all our friends come over every Sunday and game in our basement, I hope that's cool. Generally they clean up and just want pizza and Mountain Dew.

How are you at Role Playing games anyway? I'm currently running one with Mark, he'll get you up to speed, but there's a fairly high bar set up there. And parties. I hope you like parties. I'm sort of the de facto bartender at most of these shindigs, so I hope you get a chance to stop off at Borders and pick up a book. Oh yeah, I have a job too. But it's cool if you quit, I don't really like it, and the commute would be terrible for you. Maybe I should just quit before you get down here. Just let me know if any other plans need to be made. I could try and find work for Ed, but being as that any explanation of what he does would fly well over my head maybe we should just leave him to it.

I'm really looking forward to this switch, should we just make it permanent now, or do you want to give it a five year trial period? I'm good either way, just to let you know. I'm not pushy. Let me know soon; I've already told my boss I need to talk to him tomorrow.

Good luck with... that.

I wonder if you'd have to have sex with her husband in the trade...

None of that now. Did you not see how I said Ed should come down? Not that Ed and I couldn't have a nice life mind you. We both have boy parts, and we both like girl parts. No conflict of intrest. He could make money, I could take care of the house and the kids and work on my long delayed revolutionary "Big-Robots-In-Space-That-Is-Not-
A-Transformers-Knock-Off"
comic book.
But somehow I think he would miss his wife, and she would miss him and that would far outway my amazing christmas cookies.

Yeah, good luck. I hope the Big Apple is as much fun for you as it has been for them. It sounds like you will fit in perfectly at Ed's 20-hour a day job because I know how much you LOVE the idea of work. His long commute will be a blast, and I'm sure Kari can hook you up with some good Brooklyn playgrounds where you might be able to meet some new friends if you ever have a weekend day off. Their church will really appreciate having you there to take over K&E's volunteer service. It's a lot to take on, but I'm sure you're up to it.

I know the Hickmans will love their new proximity to grandparents and other family members. And now that thier pace of life will slow down some, maybe they will have time to... breathe.

Sure, fine, burst my bubble. I was already mentally in Brookland; walking to visit friends in Prospect Park, complainging about the commute...

Alright fine I wouldn't make it a week at Ed's job and we all know it. But maybe next time I come up to the city I can at least drop by and say hi?

OK, sounds great. Maren did mention some of my caveats, but I will lay them out. I will do your parties and coffee talks if you quit smoking, bartending and coffee drinking and teach my AND Ed's sunday school classes at church (Ed teaches new converts; I teach 8-11 yr olds, classes are at the same time, no problem.) I also organize a weekly playgroup so you get to pick the park or have it here - be sure to have lots of PBJ and juice boxes on hand. Library storytime is 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, you get a free book every 3rd time you go. But sometimes they don't do it if they don't feel like it so call ahead. I guess you should get a couple kids to make it a really fair switch. If you are bringing a car, allow about $400 and 40 hrs a year for parking and tickets, not to mention tolls and doubled insurance. I suck at role playing games so you can get out of Music Together class. We have one big and one small bedroom and a tiny 13 -inch TV/VCR combo I can barely see with my glasses on. Laundry is in the basement, and no central a/c anywhere. We have a/c units in the windows but the summer electric bill is significant. Oh, and they just raised our rent 5% starting in September so that's good timing. We're going on vacation the first 2 weeks of Sept so if you want to just move us while we're gone we'd really appreciate it. We can't give you keys because our door is still all busted up and there's no telling when we'll get a new one with real locks. Hope you speak Russian because our super and over half the building does.

In all seriousness, we're only here one more year so if you want to come take over our lease next summer, it's really yours.

And yes, you are always welcome to come by and say hi. We'll have to think of a clever name for you since "Uncle Dave" is already taken...
